The Ashen Tusk Concord
Public lore preserves the setting's disagreements and uncertain histories.
Secret Lineage Circle — Iron Heartland#
"They know what was done to us before we did the doing. That is either wisdom or a wound that will not close." — Bastion Hammers veteran, overheard
The Ashen Tusk Concord meets in ancestor halls built into the rubble of auxiliary forts that predate the western conquest, gathering lineage representatives who carry the Iron-Bound's actual history — not the martial romance constructed afterward, but the records of coercion, conscription, and institutional humiliation that shaped the conquest's rank and file. The Concord's founding purpose was to preserve this memory against the mythologizing tendency of victors, and it has done so with considerable success: its oral archives and cipher-books document atrocities that official Heartland history describes, if at all, as necessary discipline.
The Concord is not a revolutionary organization, a distinction it maintains carefully and sincerely. It does not seek to overthrow the successor state or relitigate the conquest. What it does seek is the suppression of the romantic myths about western service that fortress houses exploit to recruit and motivate new generations — myths that the Concord's members regard as an ongoing insult to their ancestors' actual experience. This puts them in quiet conflict with the official commemorative culture, and occasionally in dangerous conflict with houses whose founding heroics appear in the Concord's records rather differently than in the clan songs.
Adventurers are sometimes approached by Concord members seeking retrieval of specific documents from fortress archives, recovery of cipher-books from burned auxiliary forts, or the quiet discrediting of a particular clan's foundational narrative. Payment is modest but the work is sensitive: the Concord has informants inside the Black Rivet Office and knows how close its membership files are to an investigator's desk.
