Merchant Faith Network — Major Trade Routes Worldwide#

"Three wars have ended because both sides kept money in Covenant vaults. You don't torch the counting house you both need to trust tomorrow." — Pasharan grain factor

The Open Vault Covenant is a quasi-religious merchant network maintaining banking shrines, contract houses, and arbitration halls along every major trade artery in the known world. Its founding mythology traces to a post-collapse pact among seven merchant families who agreed that commerce could not survive without a neutral intermediary no belligerent prince could casually seize. The Covenant answers this need by distributing its assets across so many jurisdictions that destroying it would require simultaneous war against most of its clients.

In practice the Covenant offers letters of credit, collateral vaulting, contract witnessing, and commercial arbitration. Its shrines are architecturally standardized — travellers recognize the pale stone colonnades and locked grille windows in harbor towns from the Azure Isles to the Reach's inland capitals. Covenant arbitors are trained in the commercial laws of seventeen polities and command sufficient institutional respect that their rulings are enforced even by states that despise the Covenant's politics.

Beneath the neutral facade, the Covenant is not without ambition. Long-term depositor relationships give it leverage over noble houses, city councils, and shipping interests that nominally govern themselves. Adventurers hired through Covenant channels typically carry letters that open doors, cross borders, and command professional courtesy — but those letters can also be quietly rescinded if the Covenant decides a client's interests have become inconvenient.
