Ashen Ladder

A volcanic and sulfurous mountain system on the remnant's southern approaches, marked by black terraces, ember shrines, eclipse towers, and sealed vault observatories. The Ashen Ladder is associated with regulated cult practice, unusual bloodlines, and old imperial attempts to classify rather than eliminate the uncanny. Tieflings, nephilim, fetchlings, elemental-touched lineages, and occult monastic orders are all plausible here. Even ordinary villages often keep unusually exact household records, as though some forgotten bureaucracy still expects inspection.
