Giants

Reference tables contain changeable development values.

The hill giant does not build. It takes. The frost giant does not negotiate. It demands. The fire giant does not forgive. It forges.

Giants are among the oldest intelligent species in the world, predating human civilization by millennia. They are organized into loose societies stratified by elemental affinity and cultural complexity. The Magnus Empire spent considerable resources containing giant populations; with those containment measures now failed, giant activity is increasing across every frontier.

Trolls are not true giants in the taxonomic sense, but their size and regenerative abilities earn them a place in this category. Their regeneration makes them nearly impossible to kill without fire or acid, and even severed limbs will regrow given time. Troll warrens are among the most dangerous environments in the Reach, as the creatures breed rapidly and consume everything organic within reach.

Frost giants are the dominant giant species of the Nord-Vast, where they maintain fortress-steadings in the high glacial valleys. They have a complex raider culture built around feats of strength and plunder, and they occasionally ally with winter wolves and white dragons. Their raids on lowland settlements are a persistent threat that no northern ruler has managed to permanently resolve.

Fire giants are the most organized of their kind, maintaining forge-citadels in volcanic regions where they practice master-level smithcraft. Their weapons and armor are highly prized, and some Iron-Bound warlords have attempted to establish trade relations with fire giant holds, with mixed and often violent results.
